The eighth annual Muswell Hill Creatives Make and Mend Festival is set to take place for the first time at Hornsey Town Hall this month.

On Saturday, 17th October, from 11am to 5pm, the “lively and inspiring festival” invites “visitors of all abilities to slow down, create, and connect”.

Whether a seasoned crafter or a total beginner looking to spark a new passion, attendees can take part in hands-on workshops, learn new skills or hobbies, and shop directly from local independent makers.

The festival will include hands-on workshops, where people can learn expert techniques ranging from the meditative precision of Japanese Sashiko embroidery and modern calligraphy to the bold expressions of linocut printmaking and paper lampshade design; a ‘Makers’ Market’ were visitors can discover unique, hand-designed goods including ceramics, jewellery, and textiles; food and drink; and a charity tombola with prizes donated by participating artists and makers and all funds raised going directly to the social enterprise Wave Hub where those with and without learning disabilities come together.

Rosalind Freeborn of Papershades will be holding two workshops where participants get to make a beautiful unique paper lampshade using paper collage to create their own truly unique design. Rosalind says: “The Make and Mend Festival is a great chance for local artists and makers to not only show what they make and do but invite people to have a go at creating things themselves. The results are amazing!”

Rachael Booth-Clibborn, who founded Muswell Hill Creatives back in 2014, adds: “I love this event. The downside is that I’m always running around at it, so I don’t get to join any of the really brilliant workshops on offer!

“We have such a great mix of workshops for all levels and ages this October and are thrilled to have gone bigger with the festival thanks to Hornsey Town Hall hosting it as part of its Hall for All Scheme.”

Admission to the main festival and market is free but workshop prices vary. For more information:
