Great North Comedy is organised in collaboration between The Post Bar and Greg Houston Comedy

A new comedy showcase night is arriving in Tottenham, courtesy of The Post Bar and Greg Houston Comedy.
The event is designed to remedy the lack of comedy events around the area, with the first night set to go ahead this Thursday, 20th April.
Among the acts ready to take to the stage are Nathan Cassidy, Zoe Brownstone, Katie Green, Khalid Raheem, Lyle Barke, and Ren Pereira.
HCP spoke to Greg Houston ahead of the show:
Could you tell me a bit about yourself and how you came up with the idea of running a comedy showcase?
I’m Greg Houston, a Canadian comic that is now based in North London since October 2021. I used to host and produce comedy shows in Canada weekly or monthly since Spring 2014.
I’ve always strived to have fun, smart, engaged audiences and to provide them with comedic voices from a huge variety of perspectives. The only common denominator in the shows I produce is everyone is really funny.
A showcase is great as I can book a bunch of hilarious comedians that are at different levels in their careers provide them good stage time and pay them. And audiences will get a chance to see some comics preparing for their TV debut or prepping for their national tours or showcasing their fringe show/WIP.
Do you feel there’s a lack of events like this around Tottenham and why do you think that may be?
There’s not a lot of comedy events around Tottenham these days. There’s some further east towards Walthamstow or west near Finsbury Park, and obviously south in Hackney, but nothing else really around South Tottenham. And North London in general is pretty under-served for regular good comedy shows. One of the reasons might be it’s both an old and new area of town at the same time. There’s been people here for generations and also a lot of new-to-London people land in this area to live and work. And comedy traditionally has been pretty exclusive – catering to rich older suburban people, and not everyday working people. Our show welcomes everyone, and if there’s financial barrier to coming we’ve set aside seats to help accommodate anyone currently experiencing financial insecurity.
What’s special about the comedy talent around the borough?
We’re always at comedy shows all over London scouting talent and watching for up-and-coming voices to try to bring in a diverse and excellent show each month. Some of these comics are from the area, but some will be from all over London too. We even have a guest comic dropping in this week from New Zealand! We have a dedicated Instagram page if any very local comics want to pop on a show or get booked in upcoming as well.
If Haringey has its own sense of humour, how would you describe this?
Quick witted but friendly. Accessible and smart. It’s lived experiences told by storytellers with great hooks and twists.
How do you hope to make your showcase unique?
We’re bringing some of the best talent performing in London together for one night a month. These are award-winning comics that have been on TV in the UK and globally performing comedy and making fans. The line-ups are super curated to ensure there’s something for everyone in the audience. Plus, it’s at one of the best venues in town! A unique stage, friendly staff, and positive vibes make The Post Bar a wonderful time for people attending. They have amazing Argentinian food and local beverages, and an amazing sound system to boot. We’ll likely sellout this month and will need to get audiences to start booking their tickets for next month very soon to guarantee they get a seat.
