Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has announced a home match ‘dedicated to the people of Ukraine’.

On Sunday, 6th August, Tottenham Hotspur will be hosting Ukrainian football club Shakhtar Donetsk in a home pre-season friendly to raise funds for the charity Shakhtar Social.

Shakhtar Donetsk is one of the best-known Ukrainian football clubs as 14-time Ukrainian premier league champions. Its charitable foundation Shakhtar Social aims to develop children’s grassroots football in the country and create equal opportunities within the sport.

Ukrainian families across North London who have been displaced by the war will be given tickets to the game by the club with their children leading the teams out as mascots on the day.

The match will be opened by Ukrainian singer Olya Polyakova who will perform the country’s national anthem ahead of kick-off. A ‘visual tribute’ to Ukraine will include Jon Dann, a volunteer offering humanitarian aid to Ukraine since the war began last year, coordinating and leading a series of eight deliveries of medical supplies driven from London, across Europe, into Ukraine. Jon will be appearing at half-time.

Throughout the match, there will be a live match shirt auction and text-to-donate messaging for Shakhtar Social and the club will also be making its own financial contribution and an additional donation of net proceeds from ticket sales to Shakhtar Social.
