Haringey Greyhounds to compete in debut match of Women’s National Ice Hockey League this weekend, writes Taro Kaneko

A new female ice hockey club is preparing for its debut match at Alexandra Palace.
Haringey Greyhounds, based at Alexandra Palace Ice Rink, will compete in their debut match of the Women’s National Ice Hockey League this weekend.
Their first match of the league will be against the Bristol Huskies on Saturday, 26th October, at 6.15pm.
The team was founded in the spring by Kirsty Bard – who had previously formed Cambridge’s first female ice hockey club, the Cambridge Kodiaks.
Bard, the new general manager of Alexandra Palace Ice Rink, said: “I saw a diversity gap at Alexandra Palace and then made connections to build the ice hockey community for North London.
“I am aiming to recreate the success of my previous club and get the Greyhounds to the top of the league.”
The team will be captained by Hannah Dolan-Davies who began ice skating at the age of six, competing internationally in figure skating and later played ice hockey with the London Capitals women’s team last year.
On the Haringey Greyhounds’ website, Hannah said: “I am honoured, and so excited to be a part of the Haringey Greyhounds.
“I hope we can inspire a new generation of hockey players, by cultivating a positive sporting environment for all.”
The Greyhounds joined the South 2 division of the league after hosting their open trials at the palace’s rink during the summer. The team will play against hockey teams from Streatham, Kent and Coventry in the following months.
