Tottenham Hotspur secured a comfortable victory over Norwich City that lifts them to fifth place in the Premier League.

Lucas Moura opened the scoring on the half hour mark with a thunderbolt. Norwich played well for large periods but still conceded twice more in the second half, with Davinson Sanchez and Heung-min Son netting for the home side.

Norwich made a positive start to the game and had an excellent chance with just three minutes on the clock. Adam Idah pulled out to the right flank and picked out Teemu Pukki in the area, who directed his effort straight at Hugo Lloris.

Oliver Skipp went on a surging run upfield before hitting a weak shot that was easily collected by Tim Krul.

Spurs took the lead after nine minutes with a brilliant sequence of play from Lucas Moura. The Brazilian first waltzed past Billy Gilmour before playing a one-two with Heung-min Son and unleashed a ferocious strike into the top corner.

In the 29th minute Moura passed towards Kane and he played a dummy to let the ball go through to Son. Son’s shot was wayward but went into the path of Kane who was off target with his effort.

A Norwich corner was cleared towards Pierre Lees-Melou and his strike was deflected behind.

The home side came very close to adding a second with 35 minutes gone. Son sent a free-kick into the box and the ball was just missed by Ben Davies at the back post.

Spurs created a good chance on the counter where Son played Kane in behind and he attempted a chip over Krul that went just wide.

In the 42nd minute Kenny McLean put a ball into the box that ended up forcing Hugo Lloris to scramble and make a save. Davies then found Son in the box and his half-volley was deflected behind.

In added time of the first half Lees-Melou played a pull back to Brandon Williams and he blazed well over.

Norwich stayed firm after conceding early and were giving the Tottenham defence problems.

Two minutes into the second half Kane rose to meet Son’s corner but flicked his header off target.

Gilmour sent in a corner from which Grant Hanley headed over.

In the 56th minute Ryan Sessegnon put a cross in which Ben Gibson cut out to prevent the ball reaching Kane and denied a certain tap-in.

Norwich continued to dominate possession and were probing in search of the equaliser.

The visitors carved out a great chance in the 59th minute. Brandon Williams went on an excellent run before passing to Pukki, whose shot went towards Idah and he could only poke wide from close range.

Kane had a shot from just outside the area which Krul pushed behind.

Spurs doubled their lead from the resulting corner. Son’s delivery was flicked on by Davies into Gibson and the ball fell to Davinson Sanchez who blasted in from point-blank range.

Tottenham became more comfortable after this goal and began to play more free-flowing football.

In the 70th minute Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg advanced before shooting from a narrow angle and his effort was easily saved by Krul.

Son added the home team’s third with 76 minutes on the clock. Davies played a one-two with Moura and burst into the box before he passed to Son who held off Gibson and slotted into the net.

To their credit, Norwich continued to come forward but the damage was done by this point.

The final score flatters Tottenham but they showed their grit in difficult periods and ended up with a good win.

Chants of ‘Antonio’ reverberated around The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium towards the end of the match and Conte’s side are now building real momentum in the Premier League.

They have won three consecutive league games under the Italian and are now firmly back in the race for the top four.

Spurs will need to use this momentum in their crucial Europa Conference League group fixture at home to French outfit Rennes on Thursday.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte speaking in his post-match press conference, asked about the fans singing his name, said: “I want to tell thanks to the fans that sang my name. In one end I’m very happy and enthusiastic about this. In the other end I feel a lot of responsibility towards the fans.

“Maybe it’s early and in the future I want to show that I deserve this.”

On Lucas Moura: “I think he scored an amazing goal but he has the quality to score more goals and he has to score more in the rest of the season.

“In front we have great quality with out strikers. Good performance with the ball and without the ball.”
