Haringey Aquatics ‘remaining positive’ with silver win despite closure of training facilities

The team has triumphed despite the closure of all training facilities – starting with Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness and now Park Road Leisure Centre

A Haringey swimming team have scooped two silver medals in regional championships, despite a “challenging year”.

Shakil Giordani, who competes in the open age category for Haringey Aquatics, won silver in 50 metre backstroke, while teammate Amy Hanson, 13, Haringey’s youngest swimmer at the championships, won silver in 50 metre breaststroke in the Swim England London Regional Championships.

The wins come despite closure of all training facilities intermittently since January 2023, when it was announced that Tottenham Green Pools and Fitness must close due to an electrical fault.

The swimmers were moved to Park Road Leisure Centre, which has also been shut for weeks.

Head coach Paul Doyle commented: “It’s been a challenging year so far, to say the least. I want to commend the swimmers and the club’s coaching team for remaining positive and on a positive note, squeezing all of us into Park Road has brought us closer together.”
