Sophia Khalil from Streetz Ahead on the group’s upcoming theatre production
Based in Haringey, Streetz Ahead is a dynamic charity dedicated to helping young people unlock their full potential, feel inspired, and express themselves through the transformative power of dance, mentorship, and performance.
With a mission to boost self-confidence, mental wellbeing and creative expression, we provide a range of creative and educational programmes for young people, and offer an inclusive space for self-discovery, mental wellbeing while fostering resilience and a sense of community through the arts.
This February, we’re excited to present to you Shoemaker, our newest hip-hop theatre production in partnership with Platinum Performing Arts. This modern, high-energy reimagining of The Elves and the Shoemaker brings together vibrant dance, rap, and storytelling diving into family dynamics, tradition versus change, and neurodiversity.
Set in a family-run shoe business grappling with change in a digital world, it follows the youngest son’s journey as he navigates his ADHD diagnosis, adding tension between his rich imagination and the family’s struggle to keep their business alive.
The production of Shoemaker tackles powerful themes with humour, heartbreak and unforgettable movement. In addition to amplifying the impact of Shoemaker, Streetz Ahead will host post-show wellbeing workshops designed to empower children with tools to discuss mental health openly, fostering resilience, self-expression, and connection in a supportive setting aimed at giving children a safe space to explore and discuss mental health and creativity.
